How have you been? Fantastic, I hope. I have a lot of fun things to share with you, so many in fact, I'm having a hard time figuring out where to start. But, based on our conversations on Facebook and Twitter, I thought the best place to start was where your interests seem to lie. So, sit back, grab some wine, a little dark chocolate, and let me tell you a story.
One night I went over to my friend, Stacy's house for some quality girl time, and we ended up watching a Joe Santagato's YouTube channel for awhile. Now, I totally understand that a 44 year old, suburban wife and mother is not this guy's target market, but I don't know, I kind of fell in love with him. I found him funny, engaging and authentic.
If you read my New Year's post you know that this being authentic is a big thing for me. See, here's the deal, until this January (yes, this one right now) my day job was as a consultant. As a consultant it was my job to be highly professional. As an expert, I was required to put a veil between myself and the client at all times. My writing life was a very underground, secret thing and not discussed in polite company. So, after all these years, it's really hard for me to drop the curtain and be my authentic self. To show you, my readers, the person my friends and family know and (hopefully) love.
Which leads me back to my girl's night. After our videofest, I got to thinking, (which everyone who knows me understands is extremely dangerous) hey, I could do that. Not like him, but for fun, as a way to turn off the editor I often struggle with on the page.
So the next day I was still thinking about this and I got an impulse. Sinful had been released and I was getting a lot of questions about Brandon and I thought… Hmmm… why not answer them in a video. Instead of overthinking and analyzing and planning I decided to turn on my computer and see what happened. I did it as a test. Just to see and experiment and see how much of an idiot I looked like. The plan was, after I was done, I would delete and start again– more polished and professional– but after I watched it I thought, no… I'm going to share it with you for exactly those reasons. It's not professional. There's no polish. No set. Lighting. Etc. I literally, got an impulse, sat by the window and pressed play. What you see is what you get. It's off the cuff, unrehearsed and not edited, but I actually kind of like it because it's me, and we should always remember our first time.
I'm sure I'll improve as time goes on– because I'm going to keep at it. My daughter is dying to make some video's with me so you can expect some fun things with her. I'm thinking I'm going to share news about my writing, thoughts, and other randomness in this format. Lastly, I'd LOVE to do at least a quarterly (but preferably monthly) reader based Q&A.
So this it what I'd like you do to– if you have any questions about me, on my writing, the Something New Series, the Undone Series, your favorite character, or what I'm wearing that day send them our way. Kim and I will collect them, and I'll answer them in a video that we'll share on the blog. You can ask your questions in a variety of different ways– in the comments on the blog, in the comment section of the YouTube video, via the contact form on the website, or message me on Facebook or Twitter. Ask and you shall receive…
But for now, here's the answer to your most pressing Brandon questions. Enjoy!
